Testimonial and Student Feedback from UW-Milwaukee MBAs For Michael S. Orban, Speaker and Writer
Michael was a guest speaker and discussion leader in one of my MBA classes relating to international issues in strategic management. He and I co-directed this particular class that featured sections of his book Souled Out: A Memoir of War and Inner Peace (2007) and a case entitled "Starbuck's International Operations" by Sanjib Dutta and K. Subhadra (2003). Mike's experiences in various cultures and roles contributed tremendously to the effectiveness of this class.
This class was in a mandatory cap-stone course for UW-Milwaukee MBAs, entitled "Strategic Management" and included 41 students ranging in age from 25-50 and a variety of business and educational backgrounds. Mike was well-prepared for his presentation and discussions and offered thoughtful and humble wisdom to the class.
Students' written feed-back included the following comments:
• Excellent, down to earth, and personable presentation and discussion.
• Extremely relevant information that was very helpful personally and to the course.
• The most interesting guest speaker we have had.
Mike's book and experiences lend themselves well to the complex issues that business leaders face in global growth and cross-cultural understanding, respect, and team-work. With so many youth facing experiences in the military or other global enterprises, Mike's age and wisdom are very beneficial, and his style of delivery and response is very conducive to class participation.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss this further.
